I bought 3 of these plants from petsmart about two months ago out of a tank titled assortment. I don't know what kind of plants these are but they are not doing good in my tank. They are wilting, turning yellow & are getting holes in the leaves. Does anyone know what kind of plant this is?

Here's a pic I took of the plants in my tank..... http://images35.fotki.com/v1162/photos/9/915913/4075988/DSCF0242-vi.jpg

Unfortunately, what you have yourself is a Peace Lily, which is a terrestrial plant, sometimes kept emersed (kept partially in the water). You can even see what appears to be a developing stamen (the little "core" that grows in the middle of the flower). Under water, they quickly rot, which is what you're seeing. If you want any chance of them surviving, set up a small flower pot with some potting soil and put them by a window.

In my opinion that does not look like an aquatic plant.

Doesn't look like anuabis or amazon sword plant. I have both anubias of many variations (nana, golden, petite), as well as amazon swords plants grown with CO2, as well as amazon sword plants grown under very high light. It looks like a amazon sword plant, but it still looks a bit iffy.

Doesn't look aquatic, best to make sure and buy the right aquatic plants before purchasing. Many are pond/terrestrial plants and only rot under water, though most can be grown immersed.

that's an amazon sword

a hardy, tall plants that doesn't require TOO much care...

try getting brighter lights for your tank

hagen makes a light that you can probably get at petsmart, it's called a GLO T5 fixture get the 24'' one.. it's about $80 with the bulb. i know it sounds like a lot but it makes your tank brighter, your fishes color more vibrant and you can mix temperatures of light to make a customized look for your tank (the blue and daylight bulbs look really great) the 80 bucks is for the 2 bulb fixture. take off 20 for the second bulb and like 10 cause it's a smaller fixture and the 12 bulb should be like $50-60.. which is about as much as a lid for a 29 anyway...

that light should be bright enough to keep even the most light hungary plants satisfied... so the only other things you'd need to worry about is fertilizers.. replacing your gravel with flourite (like $30 for a 20 pound bag) will solve that problem..

these two things will lead to your planted tanks looking MUCH better in the future.....

of course if $100 is just too much for you to rationalise spending on plants.. you could just keep easier plants :D no biggie

it looks like some kind of sword plant, these plants need plant substrate to thrive not just gravel and did you say only 15 watts thats not enough you need to buy a different bulb that will enhance plant growth

If you have holes in the leaves then is it possible you have snails in the tank now? Keep a look out :D
