I have a female beta fish and I'm bored of those fish now. Is there any other type of fish that can survive in a tank with only water and No filter? P.S. I clean her tank once every week.

Unfortunately not. Coldwater aquariums are only suitable for species like goldfish, which need a filter due to the large amount of ammonia and waste they produce. If you get a filter, it will actually make your life a lot easier. As the bacteria in the filter break down ammonia and other waste in the water, your water will be kept cleaner for longer. This means that instead of a 100% water change weekly, all you need to do is a 25% water change, which is so much easier than cleaning the whole tank.

Try spending a bit of money getting a nice second hand 2ft aquarium if you want, and get a filter and heater. All in all it won't cost you very much at all and you can get lots of unique, beautiful fish. But if you don't have a large tank, a filter or a heater, I'm afraid you don't have any other options.

Hope this helped!

There are natural filters like plants and types of natural materials that help keep the water in the wild clean. Your obviously talking about a filter that has a motor and is unnatural, if you have a large enough tank having A LOT of plants is your natural filter. In my pond i have it all full of different types of plants and only a very small pump* not filter i breed Rosy barbs out side and i have some live bearers and gold fish. The water is cycled, and all because of my plants and the rocks and material at the bottom of the pond for the plants to grow in. You don't need to take all the water out when cleaning but having a cycled tank with a variety of plants and suitable amount of fish is what will keep your tank balanced and sustain its self it only takes 5 minutes to put it a small hose and let the water from the bottom of the tank flow into a pop plant you will need to clean twice a week and have a CYCLED tank* for it to sustain its self and the fish/life/plants in the tank for longer. :) you can have other cold water small fish like Rosy Barbs, Zebra Danios and Leopard Danios i suggest only having small fish and at least 50 litres as it will be much easier. A smaller tank needs to be cleaned more regularly especially if its over stocked with fish you could set up a 50-100 litre tank wait 3 weeks while the water cycles add heaps of plants. You would only have to clean every 2 weeks max* as plants add oxygen, and take up ammonia off course this would take a while and is not quick to achieve a tank with balanced good bacteria levels you would need to start cleaning twice a week at first and check the tank for ammonia levels or Ph about neutral :) No you dont need to have a filter thats electronic Plants do one of the best JOBs just think about the rivers and streams out side :D have fun i love my pond i dont need to clean it at ALLL

Fish need a proper tank with a filter. Otherwise their water quality will be too low and they could get sick and die. Plus you'll have a dirty tank. Once a week cleaning is not enough, especially not for a tank without a filter. Fish are hard work and require lots of time to keep properly!

How big is the pond? I have kept goldfish in a large (500gal+) with no filtering. Likewise some White Cloud Minnows could live happily in 50gal. Having a filter really increases how many fish you can keep in a certain size pond. But if the pond is large, and you keep the number of fish small, then it is OK to run without a filter. Ian

Please upgrade her tank to a five gallon tank with a filter, heater, and a lid. Also, do water changes every week.

I would suggest you give her away since there is NO such fish that can survive without a filter.

If you were a really experienced fish keeper you could use plants and water changes but your not experienced enough to do that .

So yes all fish need a filter

Filter promotes beneficial bacterias to grow, which is very imp for fishes. So buy cheap filters like hang-on-wall it's more than enough.
