His colors tell a lot. He will grey and dull quite a bit when he is stressed. Make sure that your tank has hiding spots for him! Also make sure that you have a heater. Bettas are tropical fish that need water between 76-82 degrees F. The warm water will increase their life span, brighten their colors, and make him more active. Also, you can change up his diet every few days. Pellets one day, blood worms the next, maybe some other foods thrown in there. Variety keeps things exciting for them. Make sure that he has enough room to swim too. Ideally, bettas should be in a 5+ gallon, but anything close to that is fine. Good luck with your new betta!

If he is happy he will be exploring meaning that he will be swimming and hiding or when you come he comes to the front of the tank and swims fast and a sad betta stays at the top or bottom at the tank just swimming slowly and he will not be colorful some color will fade and he will be scared of you!

Happy:

- Swims about

- Explores

- Active

- Eats like a hungry little monster

- Vibrant colors

Sad:

- Lethargic

- Sits either on top or bottom of tank but on a side looking almost dead

- "Panting", or breathing really heavy on tank floor

- Pale, or losing colors (take note that most fish do fade slightly in color when they sleep but the color usually returns later on) even while awake.

- Loses Appetite
