Question:
Re-doing my 10 Gallon Tank and Have Some Questions?

I want to redo my 10 gallon freshwater tropical tank but have a couple questions before I spend more money on it. I already have the Whisper in-tank filter by Tetra but was thinking about putting in a "bubble wall" because I think they look cool and the fish will enjoy the extra aeration. However, I'm not sure how to go about that. What exactly will I need to buy?

Also, for the fish and tank that I have what types of plants will be good/hardy for my aquarium? I believe with the bulbs I have that this would be considered low lighting. (note: I plan on trying to breed the guppies later on).

I plan on having guppies, tetras (most likely neons), chinese algae eaters, and possibly zebrafish. Any other options would be apprieciated too, although I know I cannot house too many since my tank is on the smaller side.

Bubble wall is simple - just an airpump, some tubing and the airstone or wand. Connect the tubing to the pump and to the wand and bury the wand against the back wall of your tank.

Skip the Chinese Algae Eaters, they are known to get very aggressive.

I'd go with 5 zebra danios and 5 neons or other small tetra. You can add a few cory's or otos, but that's about it.

Remember to let your tank fully cycle before you stock it with all these fish.

Plants probably won't do so well in low lighting, but you can try some Anacharis (Elodea), Java Moss or Hornwort, they are pretty easy to grow and don't need all that much light.

The only fish that is OK in a 10 gallon tank is a Betta. They are attractive and do well with plants and caves. Any other fish is going to need more room. Most fish need 30 gallons and size is not the only indicator. For instance, the neon tetras are quite small, but actually don't do well in less than 30 gallons and this is also true for corydoras or cory cats. Both are schooling fish and can't really school in 10 gallons. It's harder to maintain good water quality in smaller tanks and most fish need more room. Here's a good site:

I just installed one myself. In fact, Tetra's Whisper line of air pumps is very good. You'll also need some air tubing ( I don't recommend micro-tubing, use the standard size so you don't restrict air power ) and either an air stone,or bubble wand. With the wands, you can cut and fit to size, and with the stones, you can connect a couple together. Some wands are flexible so you can create different configurations.

All of those fish in a 10 gallon tank may not be healthy.......But most of the stuff for a bubble wall will come in a packet at petstores. PetCO is great for fish stuff as much as I dont approve of their cruel ways.
