Hi

Apologies if the answers are already within this forum.

I am after some help, I have recently set up a new tank followed all the rules guildlines and advise. After one week of adding my fish I noticed White Spot, 2 to 4 spots on each fish, I turned to the internet for quick advise and identified the problem, rushed to Pet at Home (only place open on an evening) and bought INTERPET ANTI WHITE SPOT No'6 and added the first treatment.

Now after 4 days I am due to add the next treatment but I fish have appeared to be covered with White Spot. I have read that the Interpet product is not very good so I have been to my local aquatic centre and they have told me to try WATERLIFE PROTOZIN WHITESPOT & FUNGUS.

I am not totally confident in switching meds and require some good advise.

many thanks for your help in advance.

Follow your pet shop's advice and ask them what they use, they deal with white spot disease constantly.

Separate them into a different tank, clean out the now empty tank. Take out plants, substrate, heater, filter, everything and scrub with warm water. Let airdry. Clean the plants, substrate, etc the same way. Give the fish Anti-Ich meds. Skip a day of eating. If they look healthier and dont have the spots, add new water to the sterilized tank and all the substrate and decorations. Transfer the fish by net so there is no Ich bacteria transfered. Give Anti-Ich once again, but feed.

Whenever I have white spot in my tank, here's what I do:

Add 1/2 tablespoon of rock salt NOT table salt per gallon to my tank. (if you have any invertebrates or scaleless fish then don't do this) Raise the temperature of your tank to as high as your fish can stand it. white spot is slowly killed at 85 F. If this fails, I buy Copper Safe or Quick Cure and follow the directions. Some times it takes up to 21 days to treat :(. Also, once your white spot is cured then adding 1/2 tablespoon per gallon to your tank helps to prevent it. Also, always quarantine your fish before adding them to your tank.

Good Luck!
