I have a one day old half moon betta and it is not eating it's 'Nutrafin Max Betta' flakes, I tried feeding it my Sanyu guppy food and it actually accepted it. What is wrong and can I feed my betta guppy food?

Specialized fish food just has higher amounts of different nutrients and the pellets are sized according to their targeted species. The guppy food might just taste better (is it flake food too?) Or if it is pelleted, he might not like flakes.

You can feed guppy food to bettas with no problems, but if your betta is a picky eater, you should try frozen food too.. all fish love it! (blood worms, brine shrimp)

If he is one day old, he should be receiving special fry foods. Fry have different nutritional needs, just as puppies and kittens should not be fed adult foods until they are adults.

You can substitute one fish food for another on occasion, if the fish accept it. Say, if you run out of the appropriate kind. However, you should not do this continually. A Betta, for example, has higher requirements for protein than Guppies. He can survive on Guppy food, but proper Betta food is optimal for his best health.

Some fish are just fussy eaters. Most Bettas will not touch flake food, a few prefer flakes over pellets, and some want frozen foods. They also get bored with the same old thing day in and day out, year after year. You should feed a healthy adult Betta a diet consisting mostly of good quality Betta food, but a few times a week, substitute blood worms and/or brine shrimp for his usual food. He will enjoy the variety, and it is good for him.

One day a week, feed him nothing. This is essential for a healthy digestive system. I choose to do my partial water change on that day.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

You sure can feed your betta guppy food. They are both tropical fish foods and it would give your betta all the nutrisions he needs. Every once in a while you should offer the betta food to you fish just to see if he changes his mind and starts to like it. He probley will start to like it and he may just not be in the mood for it right now. There is nothing wrong just cause he is a betta does not mean he has to like betta food. You should buy more fish foods of different kinds to keep a variaty and make sure he does not get bored with the same old foo everyday.

Try adding a few rotten old leaves to the bowls of water, the adult mosquitos may not want to lay eggs there because there is no food for the larvae. Also, make sure that the bowls are in a shady corner, damp if possible. Until you get some larvae, have you thought about trying frozen or dried bloodworms? Many pet shops sell them, and bettas absolutely love the stuff.

Your betta can't really tell the difference between betta and guppy food. Try feeding it new betta foods because guppy food isn't nutritionally complete for bettas.

YES U CAN. But feed her thrice a day. Live food doesnt work well with bettas. They are higly prone to popeye and bacterial diseases. They need good filtration as they are very sensitive. they dont htrive well in small containers.

Try soaking the food in aquarium water for 1-2 minutes before feeding him.

I think it would be wise to continue giving it betta flakes.
