Question:
How do I use a Hagen Elite 800 Air pump for my fish tank?

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I plug it in and then it starts doing this loud buzzing sound and vibrates. That can't be normal.

The tube is in the water, I placed the pumper on the table, laying flat, behind the aquarium, but it's not working right.

I need a user manual for dummies, literally...One that included images...cuz I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm worried about my fish.

This is an image of the air pump that I have that I found on the net.

If anyone could help that would be awesome! If you're not going to reply with a serious answer don't bother replying at all...I dislike the "imma reply just to get points" thing.

Thanks in advance. =)

I am just as stumped as you are.

The humming is an indication that the pump is working (perhaps not properly).

Air pumps tend to be a little shoddy in my opinion. Go back to the store and ask for an exchange. It could be that you just have a dud.

What should happen is-

you attach the plastic hose to the pump. Plug the other end into an airstone.

Plug into wall and viola! Air bubbles. You do have to be careful to have slack in the hose so it dips, otherwise you may have gotten water into the pump. You can also buy an attachment that blocks water from entering.

Elites are actually quite noisy pumps, unlike some other brands of air pump. Aslong as you have your pump turned the right way up (ie. not upside down (the one in the picture is the right way up for reference)) and the tube is fitted well then you have done everything you need to. To deaden the noise of the pump slightly, ensure it is touching nothing except the surface it is on, and put a little bubblewrap or something underneath it...

Other than that, take it back (if possible) and swap it for a different brand. I personally use tetra air pumps.

it is normal for them to variate all i have ever owned did this to solve this i put it on some type of cloth. washcloth is best stops the air pump from moving and has less noise. really don't like the type u have does not last that long.
