Flowerhorns can grow up to 12-13". I myself have a 12" flowerhorn in a 55 gallon tank. I haven't kept an Oscar yet but it probably grows up to the same size.

In the wild, oscars do not have a maximum growth size. When my parents and I took a trip to the RioNegro a few years ago, we saw stringers and stringers of fresh wild-caught oscars well over 20" long in fish markets. Some were still alive. They reach between 10" and 12" in a year depending a lot on their food intake and size of aquarium. Once they reach that size, their growth rate slows slightly.

My own oscar turned 15 years old a month or so ago and is only 16 1/2" long. He weighs approximately 3lbs 4oz. Mine is kept in a 8' long X 3' 1/2" high X 2' 1/2" wide 500-gallon tank with a somewhat South American/Amazonian layout. Several small stumps with connected root systems, small rock piles, and a couple short sunken logs give Occifer a glimpse of his natural habitat.

i had a 16 inches tiger oscar who reached that size from roughly 2 inches in about 16 months. an albino oscar that's 11 inches i raised from a fry in 9 months, and a red oscar that's 12.5 inches after 9 month with me (it was about 2.5 inches when i got it). all 3 live in a 110 gallons tank. you want minimum 55 gallons for 1 oscar, but 70 is better as it give them room to turn.

i haven't personally own a flower horn, but i have friends who keep them in 29 gallons tank. at 2 years old, it is about 10 inches inlong from mouth to tip of tail. i believe different flowerhorns will have different maximum sizes.

Oscars should grow to at least 30cm, and can potentially get much bigger, although tank size and feeding (lack of) usually slow their growth in an aquarium. Given perfect conditoins, 45cm is certainly possible.

Growth rate ? Expect young Oscars to grow 2 or 3cm a month until they reach maybe 20cm, then their growth rate slows down.

Flowerhorns are less predictable as they are hybrids, but they can grow to similar sizes and almost as fast as Oscars.

Hope you have a BIG tank there, or plan in getting one in the neat future..
