Question:
Would this Jack Dempsey eat my Red Tail Shark?
?

I saw a fish at my LFS today, it was a very, very pretty Jack Dempsey that was the size of my hand.(note the fish is in the back of the tank in this picture so he looks smaller)

Now I currently have a 35 gallon, included in my stocking is a very small Red Tail Black Shark. She's about 2 inches long. Would the JD try to eat her when she is this size? Because I really do not want to get my JD when it's small, I'm planning on buying it at about the size of the one in the picture.

Thanks!

Owning cichlids And mixing them can be a chore.

Picking one that will cohabitate with others sometimes can be difficult.

Do you know the history of this fish? Can you ask LFS if there is a history?

My LFS takes adopts unwanted fish so bigger fish they adopt usually come in with a history.

The picture you posted shows JD all alone. Why is it alone? That could be an indicator that is an aggressive JD!

These fish have different personalities. Some can be mean as heck, others more timid.

The way I chose my JD; at my LFS JD tank there was maybe 20 little guys. Knowing I was trying to house JD in a community setting I watched the tank looking for the littlest guy hidding in the corner. He was all dark and dreary colored and the runt of the group. That's the one I picked!

Now I have a 5" beautiful JD housed with Congo Tetra, gourami, Clown loaches, polypterus, angel fish, ect, and they get along good.

Red tail black shark can be territorial and simi agressive too. If your going to try this combo I would suggest asking store if you can return one of the fish if needed.

Good luck!

thats a good looking fish :)

im not sure. i dont think it will eat the shark, but it will probably chase and bully the shark. it depends on your tank. like do u have alot of objects and things in your tank (plants wood rocks ornaments?) the more the better because it will be easier for the shark to get away...and the objects will distract the jd away from the shark.

i think it will be ok for short term (a few weeks). you can always divide the tank up into 2 parts with mesh if you think the shark is in danger.

nice looking tank as well :)

I dont think they would have any problems except for teritory.

If the J/D is new then there should be no problem BUT

I actually have a similur size to that J/D and it does try to eat any fish that i put in there thats smaller then him.

So this is a yes / maybe answer.

He wont be teritorial at first because he is new to the tank but after a couple of weeks i belive he will be teritorial but if he is most likely hungry he is going to eat the smallest fish in there.

So i say a no but you can try it.

A normal JD is one of the infamous tank killers. One that big may be too large to introduce into a tank as it may become overly assertive and claim everything as its own.

I have a red tailed shark in a tank with a JD and two oscars, and they have never tried to attack him. They all get along quite well.

Trading binary options online is not as complicated as many people think it is. Read here https://tr.im/MEIeQ

You don’t have to be an economics expert in order to make money by trading binary options. The charts allow you to predict the future course of an asset by finding patterns in its past price movements, and after all this what we need to win a binary trade.

Don't be intimidated by the charts, actually they are not that hard to read and understand. Strategies that are based on reading and analyzing charts are part of the technical analysis area.

in a big enough tank it's probably ok as long as the shark is large enough and the dempsey is small enough

note: it's not the best looking demsey I've ever seen, although it looks fine and healthy, why do you like it so much ?

note: I miss my border, will trade tank cleaning for a puppy.
