Hi there, im interested in getting 5 or 6 neon tetras and i know the proper care and all that, but i was wondering how long will they live? i mean, i want ot get 3 regulars, and 2 or 3 black neons, but im not going to get them if they live more than 4 years as i am looking to have my tank serve its purpose and be completely vacated in 4 or 5 years(of natural causes, im NOT going to poison them or kill them LOL)=] TY in advanced!!

Hiya! I recommend you go with the Cardinal Tetra instead. They look VERY similar, and their lifespan is about 3-4 years maximum.

The Neon Tetra are hardy. They can live 6-10 years.

If you get different types of neons, like the black neon and put them together, they won't school. They have to be the same species, so if you want both, you will have to get at least 6 neon tetras and at least 5 black neon tetras.

The neon tetra live to be about 5 years old but if taken care of well, 10 years.

You should have atleast 5 of each specie of Tetra's. A small school of Tetra's needs atleast a 10g tank. Tetra's live more than 5 years in good conditions.
