I had 4 red jewels in my 2ft tank and a pair formed, they laid eggs in a pit of gravel and attacked the other two so I moved them out.
Today, they took turns guarding the eggs, and after assuming the eggs had been there for at least a day and a half, they disappeared!
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened to the eggs?
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks

Well , u go ahead and purchase a breeding net which can be installed pretty much inside the fish tank . Make sure that rim of the breeding net exactly meets the water level in the fish tank so that fish cannot jump ouf of the net. It can breed safely well inside the net without the interruptions from other fishes.

I hope, this helps you..

Breeding net is availble in Walmart and Petco and Petsmart.

It's possible that the parents ate the eggs. It is also quite possible that they moved the spawn to a cave or inside a container,or just somewhere that they wouldn't be disturbed. It's not uncommon for Cichlid parents to move their eggs frequently.

If they did consume the spawn it was likely caused by the commotion of moving the other fish.

It's also quite likely that they will spawn again, keep the water in pristine condition(lots of small, frequent water changes) and offer a diet with some live food and a little variety.

Yup. The fish ate them. My fish do it all the time. First they lay the eggs. Then the other fish try eating them, the mother and father perfect the eggs. But eventually the parents try eating them. So much for eggs.
