You'll have fun w/this. I did this years ago. You need a heated aquar. Keep the temp in the green section of the thermometer (usually 74 degrees). Have your male in this tank. Your female needs to be kept seperate till breeding. Add your female to the male. He will be rough and look like he's going to kill her. She's ok. When they spawn, they will usually wrap around each other kind of on their sides, him above her, so he'll fertilize the eggs as they are laid. after the spawning - REMOVE THE FEMALE FROM THE TANK BACK TO HER OWN. (HE COULD KILL HER NOW, IF YOU DON'T). I don't remember if he collects the eggs, or waits till they hatch, you'll see as he will know what to do. The male will now collect the fertilized eggs (or the babies already hatched, as I said I can't remember) in his mouth (he is not eating them). He will blow bubbles around them, depositing them on the surface. He will guard them, and keep re-airating each bubble. The male will take care of the babies till they are ready to swim on their own. Do not have any other fish in the tank with him. Just keep him fed and he'll be MISTER MOM. Good luck, and have fun. After the babies are swimming, buy a commercial baby fish food, or you could try crushing your betta food.

hope this helped!

when i tried to breed my bettas i failed. it isn't easy at all. you have to take a day or two when you are home all day. put the male in an aquarium with no mor than six inches of water and don't put any gravel or any thing in the bottom of the aquarium. put something like a plant or even a square of wax paper. then put your female in a glass jar and place the glass jar in the aquarium. don't remove her into the males aquarium yet. once the male sees her he will start to kind of like dance around her and show off. then he will start to make a bubble nest. the female will most likely start hitting the glass. you can place her in the aquarium with the male. if they don't breed within fifteen minutes you should remove the female back into her jar but keep the jar in the aquarium. after a couple of times doing this they will finally breed. after they finish (it may take several hours) remove the female into a bowl of her own. the male will place the eggs in the bubble nest during breeding. this is why you keep the water low and have nothing in the bottom. he will have to swim back and forth from the bottom of the tank to the bubble nest retrieving eggs that have fallen. you should make the aquarium almost air tight now and do not feed the male at all. he will be to busy taking care of fallen eggs to eat and the bacteria in the aquarium will kill your eggs. make sure that you have an almost air tight top and keep the temperature at aroung 80F. in about three days or so you should start to see little tails coming out of the bottom of the bubble nest. now is the time to remove the male and start to feed him again. within five days the babies will start to swim. you should feed them now but you don't feed them normal fish food. you should culture out some water. from a river or a lake. if you don't have that put out a dish of water outside for about two days. you should see cloudiness start to form and see little things swimming in it. thats what you want to feed your babies. but don't feed to much as it will cause harmful bacteria. put the leftover culture in the fridge. after a couple more days you should start to be able to tell what babies are male and female by their color. now is the time you need to seperate all the babies. seeing as there can be well over a thousand fry you should only remove a couple(as many as you want)vand flush the rest. i know it sounds cruel but do you really want to have a thousand or more jars of bettas around your house. thats a lot of time and money. now the fry should be ready to eat betta food. enjoy and watch them grow. your work is now pretty much over.

Get a male and a female (keep in seperate tanks) put the tanks together and when the male makes a bubble nest he is ready to breed. Put her in his tank and remove her as soon as she lays her eggs. He will fertalize them and then he needs to be removed before they hatch or he will eat them. Good luck!
